Handgun Level 3: Advanced Self Defense
Description: Now that you've got the defensive shooting skills down, let's add in some non-shooting skills that affect concealed carry and defensive shooting. We look at 3 categories:
1. Drawing a pistol 2. Shooting and moving 3. Non-traditional shooting positions It's obvious that these skills are needed. But what's not obvious is how & why some techniques are more effective than others. Most notably, deploying a pistol even a half-second quicker, could mean the difference between being able to get the first shot off or not. That said, being able to increase your speed and efficiency without compromising safety is the tricky but important task our instructors take on. Who's it for?: Highly experienced. Prior defensive training course preferred (pre-req skill test may be required.) What you'll learn: Class topics listed below. |
Where & When:

The 3rd step towards full immunity from crime!
First we:
1. Discuss the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations.
2. Discuss the safe and efficient use of drawing a pistol from concealment. Again, we highlight the words "safe" and "efficient." We look at several drawing techniques and what makes certain ones more efficient than others. This is truly where having a formal education & training will develop a faster draw stroke and prevent self-injury.
At the range, all the drills will combine the newly acquired drawing techniques along with previous skills such as acquiring a flash sight picture and shooting a controlled pair. We'll briefly review safe firearms handling and truly establishing a defensive mindset by following proven guidelines taught by the NRA, military, and law enforcement.

The 2nd & 3rd categories at the top of the page involve understanding that simply going to a range to do target shooting isn't like the real world. Often we aren't faced with 1 single attacker facing directly in front of us while we are "ready" at a firing line.
As such, you may need to move to cover before even drawing your gun. Both we and our assailants move 3-dimensionally and we drill you in ways that you just can't do at traditional ranges.
